The EU project „Baltic Biogas Bus“ within the Baltic Sea Region Programme.

The ATI erc gGmbH Schwerin / Wismar is a subsidiary of ATI West Mecklenburg and is one of 12 European partners within the EU project „Baltic Biogas Bus“. The ATI erc is active in education, research and development collaborations. The national partner of ATI erc is the Innovation and Trendcenter Rostock − Bentwisch
The project „Baltic Biogas Bus“ is part of the European program INTERREG III B. The „Baltic Sea Region“ supports the cooperation between the Baltic Sea States within different subject areas.

The project aims to spread the use of biogas as fuel for public transport and, consequently, the reduction of fossil fuel emissions into the environment.
Tasks of the project partners are the determination of the potential for exploitation of biogas in the transport sector, the public announcement and the development of products and systems for climate-neutral solutions.
Cost-effective solutions for biogas production, biogas purification, biogas for distribution and the use in buses should be demonstrated. Furthermore, the determination of the premises to efficient use of biogas buses is a goal.

The EU promotes the conversion of public transport to more environmentally friendly fuels in the Baltic region.
Background is e.g. the EU Directive of Renewable Energy of 23/04/2009. The aim is to achieve a share of 20% of final energy consumption from renewable energies as well as a minimum share of 10% renewable energy in transport by 2020 in the whole EU.
